Zwipe prepares for biometric card volume rollouts with more hiring

Zwipe is preparing for volume rollouts of its biometric technology next year with more recruiting, CEO André Løvestam tells Norwegian publication FinansWatch in a newly published interview.

After rollouts for biometric payment cards and wearables, Zwipe plans to expand into access and ID cards.

The appointment of new senior managers and executives in sales, key accounts and marketing are being followed by recruiting on the engineering and development side, and after growing to 26 employees, Zwipe expects to reach 30 during the first quarter of 2021.

The company’s shareholder base has likewise grown from around 1,000 to more than 7,000, according to the report. The article also reviews Zwipe’s recent partnerships, fundraising and listing to the Stockholm Stock Exchange at the beginning of the year.

SmartMetric, meanwhile, is introducing cryptocurrency key storage technology for its biometric credit and debit cards, following the announcement that a major payment card network is moving into government-backed stable cryptocurrency.

The new SmartMetric Crypto Payments Card uses an embedded biometric fingerprint sensor for use authentication, and a secure element for crypto keys protected by firewalled encryption, according to the announcement.

“For a number of years we have been working on an engineered solution to bring together the power of biometric card based security, large scale encrypted memory incorporated into an existing credit and debit card format,” says SmartMetric’s President and CEO Chaya Hendrick.

SmartMetric says manufacturing capacity for its biometric cards is currently over a million units a month.
