Zwipe orders 300K biometric fingerprint sensors from Idex for volume payment card production

Zwipe orders 300K biometric fingerprint sensors from Idex for volume payment card production

Zwipe has ordered 300,000 units of Idex Biometrics’ TrustedBio fingerprint sensors to support the role-out of the Zwipe Pay ONE platform to biometric card manufacturers and card issuers in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Biometric payment cards made with the Pay ONE platform and Idex Biometrics’ next-generation fingerprint sensor will be among the best-performing and most cost-effective solutions in the marketplace, according to the announcement.

The commercial order is the first since the two companies formed a channel partner agreement earlier this year to bring fingerprint-enabled smart cards to the mass market. Each company is also working with Idemia on biometric payment cards.

TrustedBio is an integrated biometric-system-on-chip based on the company’s off-chip sensing technology, as Idex CTO Anthony Eaton explained to Biometric Update on its unveiling in February.

“We are delighted to receive this sizeable order. The order is a very encouraging start to our recent partnership with Zwipe. We, and Zwipe, firmly believe the combination of the Pay ONE platform with IDEX’s TrustedBio sensor is a leading solution just as the market for biometric smart cards begins to ramp up,” said Vince Graziani, CEO of IDEX Biometrics. “We look forward to a long term and mutually beneficial partnership.”

Idex announced last week it has received a volume order of TrustedBio units and another fingerprint sensor from DWA, and plans to join the Nasdaq stock exchange.
