Trueface facial biometrics with spoof detection integrated with Ambarella SoC for access control

Facial recognition and spoof detection technology from Trueface are now available on the Ambarella S5L IP camera system-on-chip (SoC) family, allowing camera manufacturers to offer built-in biometric access control capabilities in Ambarella-based video security camera designs.

The combined solution is targeted at the home and enterprise monitoring markets, for use cases including video doorbell cameras, smart locks, and professional access control systems. Trueface says its proprietary spoof detection technology prevents printed or digital images from being used to impersonate authorized personnel, and along with its facial recognition provides superior security to legacy technologies such as keys, keycards, and badges which can be stolen, duplicated, or avoided with tailgating.

“With Trueface access control in an Ambarella-based IP camera, homeowners and office workers will be able to gain access to a locked door just by looking at the nearby camera — creating a safer environment around homes and workplaces,” says Ambarella Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Chris Day.

Ambarella has been working toward this type of partnership, having launched a processor for real-time facial recognition at the edge earlier this year. The combined technology was demonstrated by Trueface at the recent ISC West conference and trade show.

“We believe the combined solution of the Ambarella SoC and our computer vision technology will be extremely compelling for access control manufacturers, as their customers begin to demand technology that increases the security of their spaces,” adds Trueface CEO Shaun Moore.

Trueface has also been working to make implementations of its technology easier, integrating its biometric software with the IFTTT developer platform in January. The company shared its principles for responsible facial recognition deployment last year.
