Suprema partners with Egistec on mobile fingerprint authentication solution

Suprema has entered into a partnership with Egis Technology that will see Egis’s fingerprint sensors utilize Suprema’s BioSign fingerprint algorithm to provide a mobile fingerprint authentication solution for smartphone manufacturers.

Suprema launched BioSign earlier this year and described the solution as the mobile optimized iteration of world’s best fingerprint algorithm based on Suprema’s fifteen years of expertise in fingerprint technology. The BioSign solution supports the world’s smallest used fingerprint sensor size of 16mm2 (4x4mm) and is able to support sensors that are two-thirds the size of the smallest sensor that is currently in use allowing for a reduction in manufacturing costs and a smaller form factor.

“In general, fingerprint authentication performance has strong co-relation with size of sensors,” commented Brian Song, Suprema CEO. “While smaller sensors often result in poorer accuracy, BioSign overcame such inherent limitation, providing even superior performance with smallest sensor in the market. Such breakthroughs will provide direct benefit in cost reduction to manufacturers.”

The company says BioSign has achieved the lowest error rate (False Acceptance Rate) among its competitors, performs authentication more than 300% faster while using half the memory of conventional solutions.

“The latest market trend of growing demand for mid-range smartphones has significantly increased the needs for reduction in costs without sacrifice to performance or features. BioSign’s capability to work with smaller sensors will help with cost reduction efforts.

“At Suprema, we are expecting more growth potential from mid-to-low range smartphone segments as BioSign is designed to support low-cost smaller sensors and takes less memory than existing solutions. BioSign is now on testing at a number of top-tier smartphone producers and we expect successful market entry in near future,” Song added.
