SmartMetric has signed a sales and distribution agreement with General Plastic Corp S.A. (GPC), a credit card manufacturer in Argentina.

“We are excited about this new relationship with GPC as it gives us direct entrée into the largest banks issuing credit cards in this part of the world,” explained SmartMetric’s president and CEO, Chaya Hendrick.

“Our expectation is with the opening of this new biometric card business unit with SmartMetric, it will bring us more opportunities over the regional market where we are already a strong company servicing the largest credit card issuing banks,” added Eduardo Voloschin, president of GPC. “The SmartMetric biometric card product is the future. So, we are excited to be moving forward with this next generation biometric credit card developed by SmartMetric.”

Last week SmartMetric reported a breakthrough in the battery technology powering its biometric credit and debit cards. The company announced it has been able to achieve a 100% increase in the battery’s heat resistance factor, allowing the card to better withstand the high temperatures used by credit card lamination machines.
