Remark algorithm takes top 20 spot in NIST biometric facial verification test

Remark Holdings has landed inside the top 20 on the NIST Facial Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) 1:1 Verification overall leaderboard, buoyed by a 14th place result in the Wild Photos category.

Facial biometric technology is one of the features of Remark’s artificial intelligence product offering, which includes proprietary technologies backed by 15 software copyrights and 26 patents, according to the company announcement. The company says it results in the Wild images category shows the technology’s performance for industrial use cases, and a diverse mix of customers are deploying and testing AI products to leverage Remark’s proprietary technologies, flexibility, and cost-efficiency.

Remark’s algorithm scored a false non-match rate (FNMR) of 0.035 with the false match rate (FMR) set to 0.00001. In the NIST report from April 4, Innovatrics scored highest in the Wild images category, though the FMR was then set to 0.005.

“Our top-twenty ranking on the FRVT directly reflects our investment in building and perfecting our facial recognition technology,” says Remark Holdings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kai-Shing Tao. “The prestigious recognition is yet another validation of this key component within our comprehensive AI product offering. We are continuing to work with a broad range of partners in developing tailored AI solutions aimed at addressing issues and improving processes spanning retail, construction sites, traffic control, restaurants and entertainment.”
