Ipsidy introduces biometric mobile identity verification in Peru

Identity-as-a-Service platform Ipsidy will soon introduce Proof, its biometric mobile identity verification solution, in Peru after signing an agreement with RENIEC, the Peruvian National ID Registry responsible with electronic national ID cards and identity management, the company announced.

Under the partnership, RENIEC will integrate the Ipsidy platform to validate national ID cards for authenticity. Ipsidy’s Proof service collects the information on the ID cards through a smartphone app. Facial biometrics and national ID card data are validated against RENIEC’s own national identity records to reduce fraud and security threats in digital onboarding.

Proof relies on government-issued credentials, real-time biometrics and mobile technology to deliver remote mobile identity proofing and transaction authentication for a number of transactions such as financial transactions, application and enrollment processes, new customer, employee, and student on-boarding, sale of age-restricted product, and building access verification. The tool guarantees the actual owner of the ID card is performing the transaction by taking a selfie with the app to cross-match it against official biometric ID credentials collected by the government.

The company says Proof will authorize businesses to gather ID documentation without risking data security, and that it also provides a tool to replace existing procedure for KYC, employee onboarding and new account applications and opening.

“The Agreement with RENIEC marks an important milestone in our IdaaS platform development,” said Philip Beck, CEO of Ipsidy. “This represents the first implementation in our plan to connect to national registries around the world to provide our customers with government-backed certainty as to the authenticity of identity credentials. Everything starts with trusted identity, and validation by the government that issues a document provides the highest level of trust for our clients.”

In April, Ipsidy and Mobile Solutions Peru announced an agreement to offer Ipsidy’s suite of biometric identity and authentication solutions in the Peruvian and Chilean markets. Mobile Solutions Peru (MSP) is an authorized reseller for Peru of Ipsidy’s suite of biometric identity solutions and played a key role in the agreement with RENIEC.
