ImageWare biometric presentation attack detection technology passes iBeta Level 1 testing

ImageWare’s BioIntellic biometric Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) technology has successfully passed testing for compliance to ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 1 carried out by iBeta Quality Assurance, demonstrating its effectiveness against biometric spoof attacks.

In a company newsletter, ImageWare says the test was completed with an Attack Presentation Classification Error Rate (APCER) of 0 percent, meaning that of 180 attempts with each different presentation attack type attempted against the BioIntellic system over an eight-hour testing period, all were correctly identified as attacks. Presentation attack methods include the use of photos, videos and masks.

The confirmation letter from iBeta notes that BioIntellic is a component of ImageWare’s GoVerifyID app and SDK, along with the company’s GoMobile Interactive cloud service.

Testing was conducted on a Google Pixel 3 XL running Android 13.3.1 and an iPhone 7 running iOS 10.0. One legitimate subject was alternated with three presentations of each species of attack, for 90 presentation attacks and 30 bona fide presentations for each attack type on each device, for a total of 1080 attacks.

ImageWare recently raised $11.6 million to carry out its remote and contactless biometric authentication business plan, and is reported to be planning to list on the Nasdaq. The company also just announced major earnings gains for Q3 2020.
