Goodix announces new fingerprint sensor deployments

Earlier this month Goodix announced that the recently launched Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design features Goodix’s in-display fingerprint sensor.

According to the announcement, Huawei and Goodix have been working together to advance the commercialization of Goodix’s in-display fingerprint sensor noting that “for the first time, a Chinese IC design company and well-known terminal device brands worked together to drive forward a brand new technology and its commercialization, forming a milestone in Chinese IC design industry”.

Goodix reports that since it announced in March that its in-display fingerprint sensor was featured in vivo’s X21 flagship smartphone, its sensor technology is being adopted by a number of mainstream device brands including the latest Mi8 flagship model from Xiaomi.

In September Fingerprint Cards filed a complaint with the Beijing Intellectual Property Court against Goodix and a distribution company, regarding infringement of one of Fingerprint Cards’ Chinese patents. Goodix responded with a statement noting its belief that the lawsuit is without merit and that it will vigorously defend itself against FPC allegations.
