Feitian biometric tokens for multi-factor and passwordless authentication hit Digi-Key Marketplace

FIDO momentum builds in Asia-Pacific region

Fingerprint-Identification

Feitian Technologies has added Digi-Key Electronics as a distributor of its fingerprint biometric hardware security keys for two-factor and multi-factor authentication to help secure consumers’ and enterprise employees’ access to data and accounts.

The authentication tokens and security keys from Feitian are the first solutions of their kind available on the Digi-Key Marketplace, according to the announcement. The Feitian BioPass K26, K27 and K33 biometric security keys, along with other Feitian OTP tokens and authentication products, are now available from Digi-Key.

The devices can add biometric security to log-ins on laptops or mobile devices, from the home or office, and are compatible with the requirements of most software and applications, including Google, Microsoft, Azure AD, iOS, Android, Duo, WatchGuard, Ping Identity and Centrify.

“We are thrilled to add FEITIAN Technologies to the Digi-Key Marketplace,” says David Stein, vice president of global supplier management for Digi-Key. “They are the only supplier in the Digi-Key Marketplace that is completely focused on offering two-factor multi-factor authentication and other cybersecurity products and solutions. We are looking forward to exposing this technology to our global engineering customer base.”

Feitian’s OTP tokens and security keys also include different applets for FIDO, PIV, OTP, Gids, Open-PGP and SDK implementations.

At least some of Feitian’s FIDO-enabled biometric tokens are made with sensors from Fingerprint Cards.

Feitian also recently reached a distributor agreement with UK IT company Northamber.

Passwordless authentication adoption increases across Asia-Pacific

Government recognitions and production deployments of passwordless authentication technologies have increased across the Asia-Pacific region, The FIDO Alliance says in an update of progress since the July Asia-Pacific Marketing Forum (AMF).

Taiwan’s government has followed up the introduction of FIDO standards in official industry body documents with adopting the protocol for a tax service that supports more than 200,000 users. India has made FIDO2 authentication an accepted alternative to SMS OTP, and users are being authenticated to public services in Malysia through a FIDO-certified service from SecureMetric. Advancements of passwordless authentication with FIDO standards in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Japan are also reviewed.

There are more than 150 million people using passwordless sign-ins with Microsoft each month, the company announced in November, a 50 percent increase from a year earlier.
