Elan expects to ship two million fingerprint sensors in the third quarter

Elan Microelectronics announced consolidated revenues for June 2016 increased 4.8% sequentially and 10.7% on year to US$16.7 million, according to a Digitimes report.

Elan also disclosed shipments of its fingerprint sensors would be lower-than-expected in the second quarter, but are set to rise significantly in the third quarter.

The company expects to ship two million fingerprint sensors in the third quarter, up from 600,000 in the second quarter. Elan further expects shipments of its fingerprint sensors will climb to more than three million units in the fourth quarter.

Just last month, Elan announced it had obtained orders from first-tier notebook firms for its fingerprint sensor modules and are set to start volume shipments in the second half of 2016. Additionally, the company expects to enter volume shipments of fingerprint sensor solutions for smart card applications as early as the fourth quarter.
