Diebold Nixdorf launches ATM line to support biometrics

Diebold Nixdorf has launched a new series of self-service ATMs which can support digital-native features like biometrics and NFC with modular field upgrades, to meet the needs of a progressively transforming industry, according to a company announcement.

DN Series ATM solutions are already being piloted by 18 financial institutions, including BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas, in 13 countries.

Research firm RBR found in a recent study that there were 96 billion cash withdrawals and ATMs last year, at a combined value of $13 trillion, and says the channel will remain vital to banking for the foreseeable future.

How people interact with ATMs may not remain static, however, so the DN Series is powered by DN AllConnect Services for seamless connectivity leveraging IoT technology with big data and machine learning to improve availability and performance, and integrates with the DN Vynamic software suite to interface with mobile devices and upgrade it with capabilities such as biometric authentication. The DN Series also combines high note capacity with a small footprint, and offers anti-skimming options, encrypted communication protocols, and rapid response services.

“The DN Series elevates the performance of the self-service channel, fully realizes the promise of our technology and serves as a critical component of our roadmap as we work to shape the future of our industry,” says Diebold Nixdorf President and CEO Gerrard Schmid. “This next generation of financial self-service is the result of deep discovery of consumer needs and industry demands and exemplifies the integrated delivery model so essential in our industry today.”

The company says the DN Series is representative of its DN Now transformation strategy.

Biometric ATMs have begun slowly proliferating, with launches such as the one last month by Bahrain-based Ithmaar Bank in partnership with Eazy Financial Services.
