Biometrics in Minutes: More knowledge sharing in global south

This episode of Biometrics in Minutes reviews trends and takeaways from the MOSIP Connect 2025 conference in Manila, and looks ahead to the ID4Africa 2025 Annual General Meeting in Addis Ababa later this month. Host Joel McConvey and Biometric Update Editor-in-Chief Chris Burt discuss how digital identity is maturing in the global south, as combined experience moves projects from pilot stages to more granular technical questions about full-scale ID system rollouts to address specific issues.

“There was a real consensus that the conversation has matured quite a bit,” Burt says of MOSIP Connect. “There was also a real coming together of Silicon Valley and Bangalore” – the so-called Silicon Valley of India.

At ID4Africa, Chris expects to see more convergence among nations, as African nations accumulate and share knowledge about its digital ID projects.

Check out Biometrics in Minutes to hear more how two of the year’s big digital ID events reflect changes in the global digital economy.
